James W. McPeak, 66, of Austin,
Indiana, died Saturday July 24, 2010 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany,
Indiana. He was born on July 7, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the
late John and Lillian Berdina (Calloway) McPeak. Survivors include his wife,
Sally (Baker) McPeak; a daughter, Kay Sellers of Warsaw, Missouri; four sons,
Keith Schakels and Scottie Mace both of Indianapolis, Indiana, John Baker of
Austin, Indiana and Cory McPeak of Missouri; two brothers, Clyde McPeak and
Randy Stokes both of Indianapolis, Indiana, 15 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. Cremation was chosen. Graveside Service: 11:00 am on Saturday at
purgeon Cemetery. Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana is in charge of
arrangements. * * * Janet K. Robison of Scottsburg, Indiana died on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 3:18 am at the Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana at the age of 63 years, 0 months and 19 days. She was born on July 4, 1947 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Esther (Whiteside) Hobbs. Janet was a former cook for Scottsburg Middle School and a member of the Scottsburg Wesleyan Church. Survivors include two daughters, Tammy K. Campbell of Austin, Indiana and Angela M. Butts of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sisters, Lucille Pieper of Independence, Kentucky and Lois Cheatham of Salem, Indiana; three brothers, Ralph and Doyle Hobbs both of Little York, Indiana and Boddle Hobbs of Reddington, Indiana and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Robison, Jr., on June 6, 1999; three brothers, Max, Emmett & Nick Hobbs and a sister, Marjorie Gettlefinger. Stone, Jr., 87, of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010. He was born on November 27, 1922 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Guy graduated from Crothersville High School, was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II and a retired rural postal carrier at Austin Post Office in Austin, Indiana, where he worked for 35 years. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon K. Stone of Scottsburg, Indiana, his beloved pet dog, Honey and three nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Monday at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Sunday and after 9 am Monday. * * * Richard E. Gasaway, 59 of Scottsburg, Indiana, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on October 22, 1950 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Merrill and Wanda (Robbins) Gasaway. Richard was a retired welder and team leader at Cummins Engine Company for 31 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Austin First Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteren of the Vietnam War, where he served in the Ranger Airborne and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, a 1968 graduate of Austin High School, member of the Moose Family Center # 2324, American Legion Post # 234 and a lifetime member of the Scott County V.F.W. Post # 6582. Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. (Hundley) Gasaway; two daughters, Sherrye R. Marshall of Madison, Indiana and Brandi L. (Jim) Feltner of North Aurora, Illinois; a son, Lowell Gasaway of Whittier, North Carolina; three stepdaughters, Michelle Thompson and Tracy (Stanley) Lisy both of Scottsburg, Indiana and Bethany (Amos, Jr.) Johnson of Austin, Indiana; a sister, Bonnie (James) Raichel of Austin, Indiana and seven grandchildren, Laney, Luke, Stephen, Derrick, Cody, Joshua and Zachary. Richard was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Melburn and Russell W. Gasaway. Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of his Life will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Friends may visit his family from 4 to 8 pm Monday and after 11 am Tuesday. * * * Erma Elaine McNear, 79, of Sellersburg, Indiana died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on November 8, 1930 in Bainville, Montana, the daughter of the late Everett Earl and Nelly B. (Jensen) Hilling. rma was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, James R. McNear; two sons, Richard Cook of Mt. Washington, Kentucky and Jim McNear of Elizabeth, Indiana; four daughters, Ricky Jane Kidwell and Kay Coots both of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Diana Owens of Louisville, Kentucky and Barb Atkinson of Salem, Indiana; 23 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Carlton Mitchell Cook and a daughter, Frances Elaine Thomas. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. * * * Evanell "Toots" Meadows, 83, of
Lexington, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Scott Villa Living Center in
Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on July 26, 1926 in Austin, Indiana, the
daughter of the late Willie Wakeman and Frances (Cade) Chasteen. She was a
retired qualified medical assistant for the old Englishton Park in Lexington,
Indiana for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland K.
Meadows on Dec. 29, 2009. Survivors include two sons, Mickey Amos of Hanover,
Indiana and Nickey Amos of Jeffersonville, Indiana; four daughters, Truddy
Hunley of Scottsburg, Indiana, Kay Clements of Underwood, Indiana, Linda Spicer
of Scottsburg, Indiana and Cindy Gilbert of Austin, Indiana; a brother, Ralph
Chasteen of Austin, Indiana; a sister, Margaret Frost of arion, Ohio; a
stepson, Billy Dale Meadows of Scottsburg, Indiana; three stepdaughters, Susie
Colwell of Scottsburg, Indiana, Bonnie Wells of Commiskey, Indiana and Becky
Dunham of Lexington, Indiana, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral

Funeral Home. Sally Irene Williams, 76 of Little
York, Indiana and also Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at
Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She was born on October 27,
1933 in Manchester, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Steven Napier and Anna
(Bennett) Fleenor. She was a retired CNA for the Indian River Memorial Hospital
in Vero Beach, Florida and attended the Mt. Hebron Christian Church Little York,
Indiana. Survivors include three sons, Kenny Hemingway of Vienna, Indiana, Roy
Hemingway of harlestown, Indiana and Gary (Veda) Hemingway of Little York,
Indiana; a daughter, Edith (Howard) Morrison of Vero Beach, Florida; a sister,
Susie Baldwin of Jeffersonville, Indiana, 10 grandchildren and several great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Julius and Brutus
Fleenor and Donald Napier; a sister, Mary Wallmark and a grandson, Donovan
Morrison. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm on Saturday at Collins Funeral Home with
burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday and after 11 am
Saturday at Collins Funeral Home. Alton C. "Jake" Mercer, 103 of Madison, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Finley Township near Scottsburg, Indiana on October 27, 1906, the son of the late John Franklin and Estella (Sutton) Mercer. He was the oldest descendent of the Collings/Richey pioneer family of Scott County and a strong supporter for the preservation of the Pigeon Roost Massacre Memorial and the Scott County Heritage Museum. Jake was a carpenter and cabinet maker and worked for the old Graham Lumber Company in Scottsburg for many years and the old Russ and Russ Lumber Company in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In 1949, he became co-owner & manager of the old Sellersburg Lumber & Supply Company in Sellersburg, Indiana for 24 years and sold the business and retired in 1974. Following the death of his wife of 49 years, Helen Corlett Mercer in 1979, he moved to Florida where he lived until 2003 when he returned to Indiana to make his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Alice and C.T. "Neil" Pruitt. He was a 65 year member and Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellow Lodge # 555 in Scottsburg, past member of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department, former President of the Scott County Conservation Club, former chairman of the Selective Service Board, current member of the Scott County Genealogical Society and Historical Society. He was also a former member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Scottsburg. He was currently a member of the first Baptist Church in Punta Gorda, Florida and when health permitted also attended the First Baptist Church in Madison, Indiana. Survivors include his daughter, Alice M. (Neil) Pruitt of Madison, Indiana; a granddaughter, Sherri (David) Brandon of Madison, Indiana; a grandson, C. Thomas (Tami) Pruitt of Austin, Texas; great grandchildren; Kasey and Kenton Bradley, Marcus Weiser, Mandy Hewitt, Tanner and Hailey Pruitt, 6 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen; a son, Richard Mercer; a granddaughter, Diane Mercer-Graham; three sisters, Nettie Strouse, Gladys Weir and Addie Mae Graham; a brother, Ivan Mercer and his 2nd wife, Norma Knapp Mercer. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm on Sunday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4:30 to 8 pm Saturday and after 11 am Sunday at Collins Funeral Home.
