Scott County Woman Arrested After Alleged Attack with Baseball Bat

A Scott County woman was arrested after allegedly hitting another woman in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation.  Scottsburg Police Chief Delbert Meeks told I105.3 that 24-year-old Kelly Combs, of Austin, was arrested for allegedly hitting another woman in the head with a baseball bat on North Meridian Street, yesterday.  Combs was incarcerated in the Scott County Jail.  The victim was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital.  Her condition is not known. 

Police Search for Missing NA Teen

New Albany Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a missing teenager.  15-year-old Haylee Caudill was reported missing after she failed to return home from New Albany High School November 10.  Haylee is described as white, 5-foot-5 and weighs approximately 102 pounds. She has blue eyes, shoulder-length brown hair and has a scar on her upper right arm. She was last seen wearing a red University of Louisville Cardinals jacket, blue jeans and gray knee-high boots that have silver hearts embellishments.  Anyone with information on Haylee’s where-a-bouts are urged to contact New Albany Police at 948.5300. 

Two Indiana Men Killed in Two Vehicle Crash in Floyd County

Two men were killed late last night in a two-vehicle accident on S.R. 111 just north of the Horseshoe Casino.  According to Floyd County Accident Reconstruction Team, 26-year-olds Tomas Fung of Nineveh and Jordan Burries of Indianapolis were pronounced dead at the scene after the accident which occurred around 11:30 p.m.  The reconstruction team is still investigating the details of the crash, however authorities say Fung was the driver of a Dodge Neon and Burries was a front seat passenger.  Two back seat passengers were ejected from the vehicle and transported to University hospital in serious condition.  The driver of the other vehicle identified as a Toyota Camry, 66-year-old Jan Paran of Louisville was not injured. 

NA Attorney Suspended From Practice

A former New Albany attorney is suspended after a sexual battery conviction. 40-year-old Anthony Wallingford was convicted of sexual battery in September 2008. He was sentenced to one year at the Indiana State Department of Correction, and served six months. The Supreme Court recently ruled that Wallingford be suspended from practicing law for at least two years.

MCI Makes Arrest After Discovering Large Amount of Drug Money

An Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspector discovered a large sum of drug money being transported in a commercial vehicle. According to a press release, yesterday afternoon Inspector Anthony Alexander stopped a commercial vehicle traveling west on I-70 near the 134 mile marker to perform a standard truck inspection. While interviewing the driver to complete the inspection, Alexander became suspicious with some of the answers being given. Alexander contacted Connersville State Police post for a K-9 unit. Trooper Shane Stevens and his K-9 partner, Jax, arrived at the scene. Jax alerted on the driver’s side of the tractor during his walk around. A more thorough search was conducted by the units at the scene. During this search a small amount of narcotics was discovered along with a duffel bag containing a large sum of money.  The driver was arrested and taken to the Wayne County jail on drug possession charges.

Holiday World to Hold Auction

Holiday World will hold an auction of their surplus, which includes antiques.  Saturday’s auction will be held at the theme park, located in Santa Claus.  President Will Koch (Cook) says hundreds of items will be auctioned in order to get rid of clutter at the park. 

Town Hall Meeting Tonight on Health Care Reform in Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Concerned Citizens for Responsible Government will have a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at Venture Out Business Center.  The forum is open to the public and the topic of discussion is health care reform.

Clarksville Woman Stabbed

A woman was stabbed in Clarksville last night.  According to police, the stabbing occurred around 6 p.m. at Kopp Lane Market.  The woman was stabbed in the leg and was taken to the Clark County Hospital.  Her injury is not believed to be life threatening.  No other details are available at this time. 

New County Community Corrections Executive Director in Jackson County

Jackson County Commissioners hired a new County Community Corrections executive director.  J.L. Brewer is a member of the Jackson County Council and will serve as the executive director. Brewer said he will make certain there’s no conflict of interest by serving the dual roles.  Brewer replaces Jackie Rust, who submitted her letter of resignation this summer.

Great American Smokeout Tomorrow

The Great American Smokeout is set for tomorrow.  Smokers are encouraged to quit smoking for just 24 hours on Smokeout day as a practice for long term quitting. The kits are designed to give the smoker the experience of a smoke free day with out the dread of withdrawals. Distribution of Free Quit Kits and Nicotine Patches is set for today at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg from 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm and tomorrow, from 8am to 11am. REMC Celebrates Saturday with Santa

Clark County REMC will be hosting a day with Mr. and Mrs. Claus on December 5th from 3pm to 6pm. The Event includes Christmas Carols, Christmas crafts and horse and buggy rides. Christmas tree decorating contestants from area high schools will have their trees on display for the public to vote on, trees will then be donated to those in the community in need. 

Annual Craft Show in Crothersville Set for Saturday

The Crothersville FFA Chapter will be holding their Annual Craft Show this weekend. The show will be from 9 am to 2 pm in the Boys Gym at Crothersville high school on Saturday.  Santa will appear between 11am and12pm.  From frying pork to a silent auction there will be plenty of fun events. Proceeds will go toward the annual Toy and Food Drive.

Christmas Assistance Taking Applications

The Scott County Christmas Assistance Program volunteers are now taking applications for Christmas Assistance for those families that are low income.  Volunteers will be at the Austin’s Kid’s Place on Union Street Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00 and on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  You must bring picture ID, verification of address and all income in household. The Christmas assistance program is for children newborn to 16 years of age.  Applications for food baskets for the elderly and disabled will also be taken during those times.  If anyone would like to donate toys or food items, or would like more information call 812-498-3137, 812-820-3533 or 812-820-5622.
