The Scott County Highway Department will be repaving a county road today that will cause some delays.  The department announced this morning that Stage Coach Road north of Leota Road would be repaved and to expect some delays for today only.  

Police Seeking Information on Burglary at Scott County Grocery Store

Late this past Thursday night or early Friday morning, some person or persons forced open a door leading into Stacey’s Grocery and entered into the store. Once inside of the store the person or persons stole numerous cartons of cigarettes totaling over $3,000.00 in value. The only types of cigarettes taken were Marlboro and Camel brands. The store is located at 3547 East State Road 256 in Scott County at the intersection of State Road 256 and Hardy Lake Road.  Investigators at the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg are seeking to talk to anyone who may have information on the burglary. Anyone with information should contact the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg at 1-800-872-6743 or outside of Indiana at 812-246-5424. Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers is also offering up to a $1,000.00 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime. Wisconsin Woman Jailed in Scott County

A traffic stop on Interstate 65 lands a Wisconsin woman in the Scott County Jail.  Indiana State Police tell us that 24-year-old Jameelah Johnson was arrested after the officer smelled an odor coming from the vehicle.  While Johnson was looking for her Id, the officer asked her where the marijuana was located and Johnson unzipped a pillow case next to her and pulled out a marijuana cigarette.  She was arrested for Possession of Marijuana.

Events to Benefit Senior Citizens

LifeSpan Resources and Humana MarketPOINT will be sponsoring the events to benefit senior citizens and the first one is today.  Ken and Charles Jackson from the Humana Foundation will be discussing Health Literacy at the Senior Center is Scottsburg.  The discussion will increase your ability to learn, process, and understand healthcare information to make better healthcare decisions.  Learn how to achieve better outcomes for the prevention and treatment of illness.  The second event is Tuesday, at Austin Senior Center, 21 Wilbur Street in Austin.  Ken and a representative from the Indiana State Police will discuss Senior ID Theft.  Learn what you need to know to keep your identity yours and yours alone and how to avoid scams and tricks to get you to give away your personal information.

Food for Thought Recipe Trail for Prizes at Indiana State Fair

Indiana State Fair attendees are invited to follow the Food for Thought Recipe Trail presented by Indiana’s Family of Famers–and win! Collect recipe cards from all eight locations on the Recipe Trail around the Fair grounds, (maps will be available), take them to the final destination—the Food for Thought display at the FFA Pavilion and win a prize for just completing the trail (while supplies last). Then, register for the daily and grand prizes. In honor of the Year of Pigs theme at this year’s State Fair, the Recipe Trail will ham it up with daily ham giveaways. In addition, folks can register for three grand prizes of $500 in free groceries or sets of tickets to see celebrity chefs, Eric Ripert and Anthony Bourdain live at Clowes Memorial Hall on Sept. 30. Grand prizes will be awarded at the end of the State Fair.

Counterfeit Money Passed at Fair

Officials are investigating counterfeit money received at the Jackson County fair.  Investigators say that the money was caught by the bank when deposits were made and that at least one of the bills was a fake $100 bill.  Anyone with information or if you have received suspicious bills, you are asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department at 358.2141. 

Arrest Made in Child Seduction Case

A Jackson County man has been arrested for child seduction.  51-year-old Raul Villa faces three counts of child seduction after a 17-year-old girl reported he had been engaging in sexual conduct with her.  Villa posted a $1,005 bond and could face up to three years in prison if convicted. 

Terrell Appointed to Deputy Chief of Staff

A Madison man has been appointed deputy chief of staff for Lt. Governor Becky Skillman.  David Terrell’s new duties will begin August 1 and will replace Danielle Chrysler, who has been appointed chief of staff. Terrell remain head of the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

NA Man Arrested in Armed Robbery Case

A New Albany man has been arrested in connection to an armed robbery.  24-year-old Maurice Mason was arrested for allegedly pointing a pistol at a Clarksville man Thursday, and demanding his wallet.  The incident occurred around 7 p.m.  Mason allegedly hit the man in the head with the pistol after he was told the man didn’t have any money.  Mason then fled the scene, dropping the weapon.  When police caught up with Mason and ordered him to stop, Mason fled.  Mason was eventually arrested and faces charged of armed robbery and resisting law enforcement.  

Police Search for Suspect in Armed Robbery of Jeff Restaurant

An armed robbery at a Jeffersonville Chinese Restaurant has police searching for the suspect.  The suspect allegedly entered the You-a-Carry Outa and displayed a handgun; robbed the cash register and fled.  The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20’s, standing at least 6 feet tall with a thin build.  Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Jeffersonville’s anonymous tip line at 812-218-TIPS.

Body Found in KY Park Identified as IN Man

A body that was found in a Louisville park has been identified as a Corydon man.  28-year-old Omero Diaz’ body was found early Sunday morning by two off-duty police officers.  Diaz had been shot several times.  No one has been arrested in the case and police ask anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at 574.LMPD.  

Oil Spew Off Coast of Louisiana

A towing vessel struck an oil well off the coast of Louisiana yesterday causing oil to spew into the bay.  The Coast Guard is reporting there was a sheen around the platform, and vapor that is probably a combination of gas and water coming from the “orphaned” well.  Officials surveyed the damage by helicopter, the Coast Guard does not have a specific flow rate for the well determined yet. Crews were able to take advantage of the skimming equipment and boom already in the area to work on the Gulf oil spill.

Rouch in Plane Crash

A plane crash last night in Wisconsin injured a NASCAR team owner.  The private jet went down at an airport in Oshkosh.  Jack Roush walked away from the crash that occurred around 7 p.m. with non-life threatening injuries.  The private jet broke in two. 

Oil Leak in Michigan

(CNN.com) 

Crews continue to work today to contain and clean up an oil spill in a major Michigan waterway.  The leak involves a 30-inch pipeline that was built in 1969 and carries about 8 million gallons of oil daily from Indiana to Canada.  The leak was discovered Monday.  Michigan’s Governor, Jennifer Granholm has declared a State of Disaster after touring the area by helicopter last night.  It is estimated 877,000 gallons of oil has poured out into waterways.  The cause of the spill is under investigation. Meanwhile, BP PLC will reduce its contribution to U.S. coffers by roughly $10 billion due to a tax credit the company is claiming it incurred from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.  BP said it is claiming a $9.9 billion taxation credit

SMH Renovation Done, Another Scheduled

Scott Memorial Hospital has completed its multi-million dollar renovation project.  The renovations included updated rooms and new beds along with many safety additions.  Clifford Nay, President of Scott Memorial Hospital said, “I am very pleased with the renovation project.  These updated rooms will offer our patients a quiet and comfortable place to rest and heal.” With this project completed, Scott Memorial Hospital is now focusing on another renovation expected to begin early August.  This renovation will take place in the Emergency Department wait area.  With a budget of $30,000, this renovation will include the installation of a window where patients will be greeted by a Unit Secretary.  To ensure quality care, the Unit Secretary will make sure that patients in need of critical care are admitted promptly.
